Business

What is the curriculum trying to achieve?

The Humanities faculty creates students who:

  • Develop intellectual curiosity and the ability to work collaboratively

  • Understand the diverse world they live in and how it came to be

  • Have the tools and knowledge to critically evaluate and debate the ideas they encounter

  • Are prepared to live in a world facing unprecedented challenges

  • Understand how they can influence and change the world around them

  • Are morally and ethically aware of their responsibilities as global citizens

Studying business can give students a competitive advantage, honing our students’ leadership skills, ambition and increasing their chances of success. At the Downs we believe students should have the courage and resilience to invest in themselves. It's important to have a good understanding of business and why it matters in today’s interconnected society, to be relevantly connected and to share responsibility as part of the global generation.

Business and related subjects (such as the FAMME group – finance, accounting, management/economics and the more creative areas such as marketing) are among the most popular fields of study at universities worldwide, and the starting point for this, is inevitably at Yr9 Option Evenings at the Downs.

Business touches on pretty much every aspect of modern human society, promoting equality and integrity, and the subject leads onto careers which are diverse and often highly paid. But most of all, it sets our students up for any future imaginable, thereby educating today’s students for the world of tomorrow.
