Design Technology

Design and Technology

(Resistant materials, Textiles and Food Preparation & Nutrition).

What is the curriculum trying to achieve?

Design and Technology enables the development of practical skills and analytical design methodologies to encourage creative solutions to everyday problems.

It draws on cross-curricular disciplines such as Art, Computing, Engineering, Math and Science to enable the development of quality product outcomes which can appeal to a wide range of users.

Food Preparation and Nutrition within Design and Technology helps develop life skills through understanding the science of ingredients, learning to cook and the principles of nutrition used to inform healthy choices.

Design and Technology provides an awareness of the social and environmental implications of ingredients, materials and products to enable food professionals, designers and manufacturers of the future to make morally informed decisions in a world with limited resources.

Design passion and technological awareness provides the tools and career opportunities to aid participation in an increasingly fast paced and technological world.

How do we organise learning?

Each of our subjects organises learning to achieve our federation vision of ‘Educating today’s students for the world of tomorrow: a seamless education from 4 to 19’.  Please click here to see a visual map of students’ planned ‘learning journey’ in Design Technology across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.
