More than 400 books snapped up at annual book grab

Posted on: 9th May

The annual book grab took place yesterday lunchtime in the school library and was a great success, with over 400 books eagerly snapped up in a matter of minutes!   The books had been donated by students and teachers in exchange for tokens, which in turn they could use to choose new books. There was a large crowd in the library as Librarian, Mrs Berger, opened the event and then a rush to the tables to sift through the literature.

There was a real buzz in the air as students looked through the wide variety of reading material on offer, including teenage fiction, non-fiction and books for younger children. Subjects ranged from books on Ancient Egypt, to Enid Blyton’s classic, ‘The Twins at St Clare’s’ and books from popular authors Anthony Horowitz, Patrick Ness and Gayle Forman.

Librarian Mrs Berger said: “I love seeing the crowd of keen readers impatiently pushing at the ribbon, waiting for the Book Grab to start.  A lot of students stayed for the whole lunchtime, overfilling their bags.  There was almost nothing left at the end.  Thanks to everyone who came along to the Book Grab today, it was the best one ever.”

Year 7 student Kyle added: “I have chosen a book called ‘Ripley’s Believe It Or Not’. I really like the Guinness Book of World Records and the book I have chosen has lots of facts about people who have done things to the limit.”

Year 8 student Sara said: “I really like creative books, and the ones I have chosen today are creative and also stories about animals.”
