Year 12 students take part in webinar with the University of Sheffield and University of Glasgow

Year 12 students with an interest in studying biosciences after they leave The Downs School took part in a webinar with Sheffield and Glasgow universities last week. Webinars are designed for students who have an idea about what degree course they are interested in, and want to talk directly to those universities to help them make an informed decision.

The webinar conveys the requirements, format and strengths of their degree courses, highlighting areas that differentiate their courses from others and drawing upon student experience and progression. Following a 15 minute talk by the universities, there is an opportunity for the student to ask questions to university staff.

Sixth Form UCAS Manager Mrs Waller said: “Access to these webinars is just one of the opportunities we offer our students as we guide them through the university application process. Webinars are particularly useful when students are not geographically close to a particular university, allowing them to get an insight into the course, and the university itself, before deciding whether to attend an open day.”

Year 12 student Jasper said: “Collectively we all felt we gained valuable insight and focused advice specific to the subject areas we're considering to study in the future. In particular, the benefits of Glasgow University's unique teaching and study layout appealed to a lot of us - something we had not encountered before; not only this but we didn't have to go anywhere!"
