Richard Benyon visits Year 12 students

Posted on: 20th May

Year 12 students at The Downs School were delighted to welcome Newbury MP, Richard Benyon to school  recently. Mr Benyon, who has been coming to the school for many years, welcomed the opportunity to meet with the students and enjoyed the question and answer where he was quizzed about many issues from students’ concern about the environment to Brexit. He said on his Twitter page: “Thank you to around 140 students for a really good Q & A session, with well informed and challenging questions. (I) really enjoyed it.”

Head of Sixth Form, Mr Hogan added: “Our students always enjoy a good discussion, and this experience gives them the opportunity to quiz a member of Parliament on not only national issues but also local ones that are important to them. I echo Mr Beynon in that I was very impressed with their range of questioning, and I am sure they learned a great deal.”
