Pyjama Party in the Library!

Posted on: 13th Feb

The Downs School library played host to a ’pyjama party’ at the end of January, with forty people including students, siblings and parents joining together in pyjamas and onesies to share stories and books with each other.

With cold, dark and snowy conditions outside, the guests settled down on comfy sofas, wrapped in blankets and squashed into beanbags to enjoy being read to by school librarian, Rebecca Berger. She began by sharing her favourite poem from Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, The Three Little Pigs. Mrs Rolls, Head of English, then read aloud the first chapter of Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell.

Families then spent the remainder of the event enjoying books from the wide variety on offer in the library. Children read to parents, parents read to children, people read to themselves or some joined together in groups, all while enjoying hot chocolate with marshmallows.

Parents and students really enjoyed the event. “This is a wonderful idea.  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would love to come again!” said one.  Librarian Rebecca Berger added: “This was a splendid evening in which we got to show off our marvellous library and the reading resources we have available.”
