Female sports round up

Posted on: 6th Feb

Further to the success of our U14 girls who won their County Cup football match on Monday, there have been a number of recent successes for our female students across a number of different sports.

Back in November we were visited by the Berkshire Rugby Football Union who wanted to work with us to increase female participation in the sport. A coach delivered training over a four week period, and we are delighted that the subsequent interest has resulted in the creation of our own after school rugby club. We had spaces for 16 x U13 girls to go to the Rugby Festival at Newbury Rugby Club, and were completely oversubscribed with 45 girls wanting to make the trip! We also had 15 x U15 girls representing us at the same event.

In Hockey our Year 9 girls have had some success, securing a 2-0 win and 1-1 draw against Kennet, a 1-0 win against Park House and a 3-0 win against The Willink. Our Year 11 team had a nailbiting game against St Barts, losing 17-15 at the final whistle, whilst our Year 10s won against St Barts.

Looking ahead, Sport Relief week falls at the beginning of March and our PE staff are planning for a number of events including a staff netball match, a Beat the Teacher competition and the opportunity to play ‘Just Dance’.

Mrs Miller Cook, PE teacher said: “It has been a busy time for our female students and we have a number of matches of the next few weeks both at home and away that we are really looking forward to.  I am really proud of our female students and their successes over the last couple of months, and to have been able to create an after school rugby club too is fantastic.”
