Year 9 Ski Trip to Italy 6-12 April 2025

Our initial invitation to join the trip is here: Letter

It is the aim of the school not only to encourage your child with their academic studies, but also develop their social skills, self-esteem and physical fitness as well as to enable them to experience environments outside their normal day-to-day lives. We are looking forward to next spring and the organisation of a ski trip for students to Sestriere, Italy from 6 – 12 April 2025. Sestriere is a renowned resort forming part of the 400km Milky Way Ski area. As the principal host resort for the 2006 Olympics, it provides an excellent destination for skiers of all abilities and the lift pass also allows us to ski to nearby resorts such as Sauze d’Oulx and San Sicario. Daily ski lessons form part of the package and will be provided by fluent English-speaking instructors from the local ski school. Aside from skiing, we will also enjoy a variety of evening activities such as a traditional pizza night, Gelato night and Disco.

Trip Summary:

Over Easter, our Year 9 students had the incredible opportunity to travel to the stunning resort of Aprica in Northern Italy for their much-anticipated ski trip. Nestled in the Lombardy region of the Italian Alps, Aprica offered the perfect combination of beautiful scenery, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent ski conditions.

Over the course of the week, students enjoyed six full days of ski lessons led by qualified instructors, catering to all abilities, from complete beginners to confident skiers. They made fantastic progress on the slopes and gained a real sense of achievement, all while soaking up the breathtaking mountain views.

But the trip wasn't just about skiing. Evenings were filled with a variety of après-ski activities, including quiz nights, karaoke, and bowling, helping to create a fun and sociable experience for everyone involved. Students also had the chance to practise their independence and teamwork, and they represented the school brilliantly throughout the trip.

Travelling by coach, the group stayed in a hotel just a short walk from the ski lifts and equipment hire, making the week both convenient and action-packed. With all meals included and staff from The Downs on hand throughout, students were well looked after and supported every step of the way.

The Year 9 ski trip to Italy was more than just a holiday; it was a chance for students to challenge themselves, build confidence, and create lasting memories with friends. We’re already looking forward to next year’s adventure!
