Great Results for first Netball match of the season

Posted on: 21st Jan

It was a great first game for the netball team for their first match of 2019. All the players were in good form and enthusiastic to get out on court, the game ending in a solid win for us against Kennet school 23-19.

We knew we had the points as Kennet only had five players available to play. But it was agreed we would play the game as a friendly with two Kennet PE teachers joining their team, so an even more impressive result for us!

A positive start with steady play and accurate shooting saw the girls in control at half time. The third quarter became a little scrappy as we got complacent and by the end of this quarter, Kennet had pulled the score back to draw 15-15.  With strong shooting from Ruth and Kira, they were able to get a slight lead early in the fourth quarter.   The team's defending was excellent with lots of interceptions from Emily, Joely and Atlanta turning the ball over for The Downs.

It was a super squad performance and a well-deserved victory, well done everybody. Emily was voted player of the match by the opposition.
