Berkshire Championships - Cross Country January 2026

Posted on: 19th Jan

Berkshire County XC Championships 2026

We had 48 runners involved across 6 age groups in the event at Newbury Showground on Saturday, 17 January.

U13 Boys team finished 1st, beating the next team, Reading Blue Coat, by 55 points.

Our A team comprised: Stanley O (8th), Riley D (19th), Sammy B (20th) and Tymofiy D (22nd).

A superb performance right through the team, with all runners inside the top 55 places. Impressively, our B team finished in 5th overall, for a most pleasing result for the school.

U15 Boys team finished 3rd, just 8 points behind 1st place and 6 behind 2nd.

Lorenzo M was the pick of our runners, winning his race with a well paced run and finishing with a prolonged sprint finish to pull away and win by 7 seconds. He will now represent Berkshire at the Inter-Counties Championships in Essex  and, hopefully, in the National Schools Championships in Liverpool.

Other A Team runners were: Charlie A (26th), Will R (42nd) and Leo C (46th).

We had the highest turnout in this race, with 15 runners. The B Team placed 12th and the C team were 15th.

U17 Boys - no team but those who committed to run gave their all, despite sickness and  injury, a real demonstration of grit and determination.

U13 Girls - Lottie L was our first finisher, in 41st, against a strong field. Our two teams came 7th and 11th.

U15 Girls - Lara A led the Downs runners (as so often before) with a strong 32nd placing. Abi G gave a good account in 60th as a Year 8 in a mainly Year 9 race. The team finished 11th.

U17 Girls - Thank you to the three girls who took part and gave of their best for the school. First in was Isla M in an excellent 24th place, followed by Phoebe-Marie M (26th) and Ella C(30th).

Praise should go to all those who committed to giving up their Saturday to represent the school so well, showing excellent determination and battling qualities in striving to do their best.

We look forward to next year and hopefully having a few more taking part next year (especially in the older age groups), as our depth of team success could well be increased as a result.

Next  up ......The District Championships in March!
