Back to News ListYear 12 Geography Residential Field Trip to Nettlecombe Court, Somerset
Posted on: 18th Mar 2026Our Year 12 Geography students have recently spent 5 days in Somerset working on their NEA (non examined assessment), although the forecast looking colder that our trips to Iceland, the weather was kind and the students were upbeat. 21 students worked on finalising their project title and then collected data so that they come back to school and write up their work, worth 20% of their A level. They have the opportunity to do their project on coasts (physical geography) or changing paces, units with the AQA spec.
The Field Studies Council is a long-established environmental education charity, founded in 1943, with a clear mission to give young people first-hand experiences of the natural world. Through residential courses across the UK, they enable students to explore, investigate and truly understand the environments they study.
During their stay at Nettlecombe Court in Somerset, students were based in a beautiful historic estate set within the Exmoor National Park, providing the perfect setting to study rivers, coasts and rural landscapes first-hand.
The trip was expertly led by Trip Lead Mrs Gough and working alongside Mrs Hicks, both specialists in Physical and human geography respectively. We are incredibly grateful to the Field Studies Council for the work they do, and proud of our students for embracing the opportunity so fully.
