Posted on: 15th Apr 2026‘We returned from our Easter Geography trip to Rome and the Bay of Naples feeling very proud of the group and everything they had taken from the experience. It was a full few days, but one that brought so much of their learning to life in a way the classroom simply cannot.
We began in Rome, where students quickly found themselves surrounded by the history they have studied. Walking through the Colosseum and across the Roman Forum gave real context to discussions we have had back at school. The Pantheon was a particular highlight, and there was plenty of enthusiasm as we made our way between landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. Students engaged well with the guides, asked thoughtful questions, and showed genuine curiosity throughout.
Moving on to the Bay of Naples, our visit to Pompeii allowed students to see, first-hand, the impact of volcanic activity on a once-thriving community. The level of preservation sparked some very considered discussions amongst staff and students. Mount Vesuvius was spectacular and it gave them a real sense of the scale and power of the landscape we study.
We also visited Herculaneum, which complemented Pompeii well and helped students compare different impacts of the same eruption. Time in Naples itself, including the underground tour, added another layer to their understanding of how cities develop and adapt over time.
Outside of the academic focus, students represented the school very well. It was good fun to see them enjoying the cultural side of the trip, with pizza making proving especially popular!
Thank you to all the staff involved for their time and care, and well done to the students for the way they approached the trip from start to finish.
